A unique experience
7.0Our one-week-long stay was adventurous. A one-of-a-kind adventure. Great opportunity to feel what it is like to be living in an African village on a remote island. It comes with all the circumstances associated with not being in the civilized world that we are used to. Therefore, your expectations have to adjust to where you are. Things we are accustomed to are less reliable there. I am talking about the merely 12-hours a day electric supply to the village, and thus the water supply and the internet availability. All not under the control of our host, who was extremely accommodating during the little "crises" we experienced. He was always available and responded right away. We had the pleasure of having two (one named Moreno) local guys taking care of us whenever we needed assistance. Moreno also took care of any meal we needed and was able to make a reservation for us on a local bus leaving from Porto Alegre back to the capital. A beautiful and scenic ride! We stayed at both accommodations available. One is an upgrade compared to the other. We are grateful to have experienced both. The people in the village are very friendly and trustworthy. We felt safe all the time. Again, it was a unique overall experience. If you are looking for an opportunity to have this type of experience, Ilheu Guesthouse is perfect and the only accommodation to experience beautiful Rolas Island.
