Loved this place! Definitely recommend if you want to get away from everything and see the stars!
10.0The off grid house! The remote location. The dark night sky. Clear instructions.
A relaxing and delightfully quiet home just outside the quirky little town of Crestone.
10.0I was seeking a quiet location for myself and my dog to spend the July 4th holiday and this Hideaway was perfect! The accommodations were rustic but comfortable - the hosts have thoughtfully curated a great home away from home. I loved that the listing was dog friendly - my dog LOVED exploring the property. The morning birds!!
− I think the outdoor areas within the fenced part of the property could be tidied up a bit - perhaps consolidate the leftover renovation materials into one main area. Sometimes this is easier said than done and I recognize this.

This is a peaceful getaway with beautiful views, great hospitality, and all the basics covered.
8.0I came to Crestone for a stargazing trip, and this rental offered just the right mix of rustic charm and comfort. The house was clean and cozy, especially the smaller bedroom I chose to stay in. It had everything I needed—from a well-stocked kitchen to hot water and electricity, even though it’s off-grid. I loved the quiet, dark nights with Crestone Peak nearby and a view of the Great Sand Dunes in the distance. The thoughtful welcome gift of wine, dark chocolate, and a dog treat was a really nice touch. Wi-Fi was available and worked well enough to stay connected. Gail and Michael (the property owners) and Drew (the property manager) were all very kind and responsive, and I appreciated the flexibility with early check-in. Drew, especially, was welcoming and took the time to share some great background and history about Crestone, which I really appreciated as a first-time visitor. Also, when Gail heard I had to cut my trip short due to cloudy and rainy skies (not conducive to stargazing unfortunately), she even offered me a discount for a future stay.
− The listing mentioned a flat screen TV, but I couldn’t find one—so if that’s important to you, I’d recommend confirming with the hosts ahead of time. Also, since the property is in the high desert and accessed by dirt roads, expect dry and dusty surroundings—especially if you’re traveling with a dog. That said, there’s a small gravel area out back for quick dog breaks, which was convenient. One safety note: there were some noticeable divots in the floor, particularly in the hallway leading to the bedrooms. Area rugs and runners helped even out the surface, but you can still feel the dips underneath, so use caution if you're traveling with young children or anyone with mobility concerns.
