The Shangri-la yangzhou is an excellent choice for those considering a trip to the city. It provides excellent views and is a short 10 to 15 min walk to a shopping mall. The staff are friendly and approachable. Their staff Ivy was constantly checking in on us and if we had anything she could assist us with. She provided us with valuable assistance. Lounge food was excellent and had a wide variety as well. Even before our stay, the hotel reached out to ask for our preferences and if we had any food allergies. We felt extremely well taken care of during our time there and service was way beyond expectations. Would definitely recommend to anyone going on a trip to yangzhou.

Comfortable stay but…

Our stay at the Shangri-La Yangzhou was brief but comfortable overall. We occupied two rooms on the 12th floor, both offering pleasant views of the lake. As expected from the Shangri-La brand, the hotel was clean and well maintained, with spacious guest rooms, comfortable beds, and an indoor swimming pool that our daughter thoroughly enjoyed. Although we did not purchase the breakfast package, we dined at the hotel’s Michelin-recognized restaurant. We ordered the rainbow Tang Bao buns, traditional steamed buns, and several other dishes. While the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, the food unfortunately did not meet our expectations. The hotel’s location is convenient, with easy access to nearby shopping malls and the Yangzhou Art Museum. However, the property is beginning to show its age and would benefit from a renovation. The bathrooms, in particular, felt dated, with scratched fixtures and furnishings, while some closets and drawers were difficult to open and close. What truly stood out during our stay was the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, who consistently provided warm and professional service. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but the hotel did not quite live up to the high standards we typically associate with the Shangri-La brand.

For any foreign travelers; and some domestic travelers who have traveled abroad, this place disappoints in many ways. 1. The hotel is quite old, tired, and in desperate need of renovation. This brand is normally very good, ownership should really correct this. 2. The WiFi is impossible to connect to as proper instructions are not communicated either by hotel staff or via their website. Small letters at the bottom of the page directs you to another page that requires your room number and last name; but the last name must not be more than 6 characters; not enough for me at least. 3. The hotel advertises non-smoking, but does not lift a finger to enforce this policy. This is a big problem for any non-smoker. You can’t walk into any lobby or restaurant restrooms without choking on the smoke. If they were to install detectors and fine violators a significant amount of smoke, this would stop. Regardless, this is a deal breaker and should not be tolerated by any guest. 4. Staff members would do well to be reminded about what hospitality really means. 5. Air conditioning in our room needed a repair person to come and fix; again, an indication of poor management.
