Lovely stay in a Super hotel
10.0Had a great one night stay. Very friendly and helpful staff. Given coffee on arrival and helped us plan our trek up to Mt Misen. We had a room in the Annex and it very comfortable and huge. A nice touch was the bag with tooth brush, hair brush, socks, etc. There was a free drinks area to help ourself. Just note that everything closes down between 5 and 6pm in the village. The Kikunoya hotel is in a good location. Just a short walk to the rope cable car and a few minutes down the hill to the Tori gate. When we came off the ferry we asked the girl at tourist information to call the Kikunoya and they sent the car to pick us up in 5 minutes 😀. Also dropped us back to the ferry terminal.
Highly recommend
10.0We loved this hotel. We took a second floor annex room for 3 nights and honestly it was one of the best hotel rooms I have experienced. It even has its own onsen. We didn't eat at the hotel, there are so many lovely restaurants in the town. The hotel has a shuttle to and from the ferry since it is located on the other side of the town, but really the town is not very big and everything is within walking distance of the hotel. One mention, the hotel is not cheap but it was a lovely treat and the end of a most wonderful Japan trip.
Beautiful hotel
10.0We stayed one night at this hotel. The hotel is very nice and clean and is located on top of a hill. It is very well located with a nice view of the sea. We got a large nice room with a beautiful view of the torii gate. We chose a Japanese room because we wanted a Japanese experience. The room was neat and clean, but I wish the bathroom was a little bigger (a little small space around the sink for toiletries). The staff was nice and picked us up at the ferry, they also drove us back to the ferry dock after check-out. There is a path behind the hotel, recommend a walk around the area. We had ordered a kinsai dinner with delicious wagyu beef, but unfortunately only got fish dishes. The food was beautifully presented and looked delicious, but unfortunately I am not that fond of seafood so we were perhaps a bit picky eaters. I think those who like seafood, fish, shrimp and snails will be very satisfied! We will be happy to return to the hotel and definitely recommend it!
Very Japanese
6.0Our Dutch travel agent booked this hotel for us (mother and daughter) for 2 nights. If you like Japanese roomstyle and Japanese food ( also for breakfast) it might be fine. For breakfast you get a tray already prepared with japanese breakfast. You can take bread , sweetened joghurt and coffee in paper cups from the "buffet". We informed the front desk staff 2 hours before dinner that we do not eat meat. We were really surprised by his reaction, clearly annoyed, even for European standards not a reaction you would expect being a guest in a hotel! To mention something positive: it is clean, our room was big. However we would choose another hotel, also because we are not really fond of the Japanese kitchen, certainly not for breakfast.
Amazing stay
10.0We chose Kikunoya Hotel for our Japanese style room experience during our Japan trip. It was a good choice. We really enjoyed our drink in the nice footbath outside garden, we booked the "Ocean view" room which was quite expensive but it was really worth it. We also had the typical J dinner and it was really delicious even if I would say not entirely suitable for children and teenagers. But I have to say the staff were very responsive to our food allergies - much appreciated.
Japanese room and gourmet dinner
10.0We stayed in a Japanese-style room, which means sitting on the floor at a table during the day. While you're at dinner, the staff comes and lays out a futon mattress for sleeping. If you don't like sitting on the floor they have regular rooms too. The included dinner was exceptional, with several courses. Supposedly if you book on their website you can pay more to get dinner served in your room; we used a 3rd party booking service and dinner was in the restaurant. When considering the value of this place, consider that your rate may include an amazing dinner. I didn't use the baths so I cannot comment there. One of main advantages of spending the night at Miyajima is that you have more time to see the "floating" gate in different tidal conditions. You could also use the extra time for a long hike to the top of the mountain.
