Friendly staff at front desk

− I just needed somewhere to crash. From ten pm until maybe 1am door were constantly banging with people going to and fro. It was so frequent that it can’t possibly have been normal hotel guests. I came to the conclusion that certain people were perhaps using their rooms for “work”…:

− It was filthy and the customers seem to frequent the pub next door and arrive very drunk and disorderly. Car park is rubbish strewn and covered with weeds. Reception area dirty and shabby. Reception desk unattended and when we rang the number it just rang the reception desk phone. Lots of key safes, one for each room outside the main entrance, so guests can let themselves in and out mean the reception is not manned 24 hours and given the area and the clientele this is very worrying for female guests children and anyone vulnerable. When we arrived we could not raise anyone and then the manager and another scruffy member of staff burst from a corridor with an extremely drunk and mentally unwell man screaming that he was going to slash throats. They took him (with some difficulty) outside and called the police. Then the pub manager came over and he got more abusive throwing things and shouting. The owner was aware as a staff member was on the phone. In the meantime as we had relocated to the carpark we (two women) were unable to check in. After 25 minutes the three men wrangled the ‘problem’ guest into a room and locked him in awaiting the police. Another male guest, again very inebriated arrived and exposed himself to us urinating up the hotel wall before staggering into the hotel. At that point we left. The girl we spoke to one the phone promised a refund but the hotel did not do this and charged us for three rooms at over a £1,000. We took video footage and have the emails to the hotel and their replies. We then contacted booking.com who replied and said they had investigated but the hotel told them the incident had not happened.. despite the fact we sent them the emails between us which show the hotel acknowledged it had and a video of the manager pub manager and other staff member all trying to move the man and him shouting swearing and throwing things. It is not reasonable to charge us when at 10.30pm at night we were unable to even check in!!

No frills, great service, friendly 'Old school' hotel.

The receptionist 'Adds' was there to book us in. He was fabulous. Polite, pleasant, friendly and professional. There was a problem with our first room as the cover on the extractor in the bathroom had come loose and made a hell of a noise. It was no problem and we were given another room immediately without issue. Service like that is always appreciated. Parking and WiFi were free. Its an affordable, no frills, hotel for the night. It does exactly what it says in its description. Read the reviews and if you're looking for a Hilton....dont book, if on the other hand, you're looking for somewhere affordable just to rest your weary head, this is a great option. Note: the fan is in the wardrobe, that too was much appreciated.

− The hotel is an old Premier Inn. The building and decor is very tired, the floor boards on the stairs and corridors are very creeky. That said, we knew all of this from the reviews before we booked and all we needed was a budget hotel. It was clean, the bed was firm but comfortable, the shower was hot and powerful, there was tea and coffee, a TV and WiFi. The staff were lovely, helpful, efficient and courteous . We would absolutely book again.
