Comfortable, good value pied-a-terre for a visit to Essen
8.0I wanted a reasonably-valued place to stay near the city centre. This place exceeded my expectations, with an entire apartment at my disposal (room for 4 to stay), including kitchen, large lounge area, etc. The arrival was relaxed and pleasant, and the free drinks in the fridge and the coffee (filter machine) were welcome touches. Bedding and towels were fine, there was adequate storage and hanging space and the whole place was clean and well-presented.
− The bed and (especially) the pillow I used could have been more comfortable for a back-sleeper, though I did manage to sleep well enough. As in much of Germany, the Wi-Fi is not great and only usable in the entrance to the apartment; I assume the router is located in the stairwell so that both upstairs apartments can access it. Even in the hallway, my phone and laptop would occasionally disconnect, and it was not strong enough to permit video calling.

5.0− It’s too far from the train station. No bus available because the whole area has constructions so we don’t have a choice but to walk around 2 kms going to the place and back. They didn’t specify that there is no transportation available because of on going construction.
