Reasons no to spend in Club Bentota

We had our very special day at Club Bentota, which cost 35000 LKR with a discount. First thing I noticed was the Check-in was done by a Bell boy & property was not well maintained, same as abandoned. Then someone came as the department head. I requested cloves & ginger for us. After multiple calls, I received ginger but no cloves. During the dinner chef informed that they don't have cloves. We saw the room floor is sticky with sea breeze. Then we found out hot water is not functioning. We had to have coz my wife was sick & to remove hair gel she has to have a shower. The maintenance department came 2 time with tools. I asked them not to repair it now bcoz it was already 7.00 pm & we were ready to take a shower. Due to the incidence we requested a room change. We changed the room to another that was worse than ever. Same sticky floor, with dust, not cleaned. The lady who said RDM made ridiculous arguments & we understood she is not capable of handling the room cleanliness. The Restaurant & Meals. We had bread only for dinner coz not even a single dish made an appetite. We appreciate the cake for the Honeymoon. That surprise was the worst we ever tasted. Food was a nightmare. What I noticed was that they don't use the ingredients that should be included. As a Hotelier, I concern even the food left by guests. But here, everything was very cheap & a poor recipe, with a small number of ingredients. We observed that the staff were in casual suits without uniforms. Balcony was as haunted mention, dangerous as broken. The bed preparation was 0%. Cleanliness is 0%—no spoons for Tea preparation. No wifi PW was mentioned. Our Honeymoon was wasted. Please accept my apology. As a Hotel Manager, that was the worst experience I ever faced for 35000 LKR. Not recommended for anyone.

Hotel that's a complete wreck and smells musty

Dilapidated hotel (more than a renovation, the hotel needs a proper reconstruction), rooms that smell of mold, sand fleas in the sheets (you don't notice the anticoagulant bites right away), broken wooden steps, shards of glass in the hallways, Wi-Fi only works (poorly) near the accommodation, third-world filth (in Europe this hotel would never pass health inspections). Avoid both TUI and this hotel. The staff is very kind and innocent: the workers' kindness is almost surreal considering they bear the blame for the hotel owners' faults. Only the hired staff and the endless beach are worth it. Other than that, not even the Addams Family would go to that place. We don't know how much TUI paid for the hotel rooms, but for the price we paid to TUI, we didn't deserve to live in that moldy wreck.

We arrived at reception and were invited to sit facing the reception staff. After the check in formality we continued to sit until we finally asked about our room. It’s not ready. Not invited to relax in a comfortable place, there is no comfortable place. Room is ready. No indication from staff where the room was or where dinner/breakfast was served. Directions given go straight ahead and turn left (bedroom) and right (dining room. Our room was in fact not ready. Waited for that to finish. Room was freezing (notice at reception is not to adjust the A/c ourselves but to contact reception). Someone’s hair on the newly made bed, were the sheets changed? Room wasn’t secure, doors to the balcony could not be locked. No hand towels or bath mat provided. Decided to put the doona on the bed, turned out to be dirty and mouldy. At my wife’s request, a cleaner doona was provided Into the bathroom to find that the bottles of shampoo and gel were not new. The shower cubicle had a light that didn’t work. I could go on about dirty tablecloths at dinner, but the takeaway is the hotel doesn’t spend money on staff training or maintenance. Do not stay here.

Filthy isn’t enough to describe!

Hotel set in beautiful surroundings - couldn’t wish for a better setting. This was in total contrast to the filthy rooms which had mould on pillows, mattresses and walls not just for my room but also the rooms of 17 other people. Dirty bedding, towels, curtains. Dropping water through the ceiling leaking through the fire alarm. Tape around the shower head…the list goes on. We checked out the next day after trying for several hours to get new mattresses. Group of 50 there for a reunion - all checked out the next day too!

Vile! The most hideous place I’ve ever stayed!

We had read the reviews so were concerned about this hotel, bus as part of a tour we had no option but to stay. How bad could it be? Worse than you could imagine! The place looks and feels like it has not been cleaned in years! The first room we were taken to was dirty beyond belief, with someone’s towels still hanging in the bathroom. As we left to go back to reception a housekeeper took us to the room next door where he had clearly just cleaned the floor. We could smell the cleaning product so we agreed to move. Within twenty minutes of being in the room, the smell was overwhelming. The bathroom was beyond hideous, with stains, dirt, broken tiles and absolute filth… we decided at that point that we would wash in the sea! Using the toilet made you gag, the stench was so gross! The food was disgusting…. Cold, tasteless and not one table had a clean cloth on it… We sat down for lunch and left, not returning throughout the stay as the very thought of it made us gag! The pool had a layer of scum across the top and the sunloungers were all broken, filthy and in need of burning! We were there for 2 nights sadly and at 3.30am on the first night someone banged on our door and let themselves into our room! We did not wake up in time to see who they were or why! On the second night we were woken again at 11pm by someone banging on the door and demanding we pay our bill for the lunch and drinks we had, stating that there would not be anyone available to take our money in them or one before we left at 8am. Shocking! Even more so when we were approached in the morning to pay an element of the bill that they had missed! We seriously could not wait to get away from such a filthy, dirty, vile place. I keep chickens in better conditions than here! I appreciate that sometimes places can look and feel dated and that financial challenges make upkeep difficult…but cleaning is a basic requirement and there is none here! It looks like it has been abandoned for a number of years and it’s accepted that those staying put up with the grime and filth!
