Acoya and Curacao experience

Recently stayed at Acoya for a week to celebrate an anniversary. Rented a one bedroom apartment. It was on second floor facing pool. Nice room. Absolutely no issues with the room or the housekeeping every day that we didn’t expect at all. We even had our dishes washed which was a nice unexpected surprise. We didn’t eat at any of the restaurants and only ordered a couple of drinks at bar. We self catered and bought our own at local stores. Made breakfast in room. Prices are mostly comparable to home, maybe slightly higher. We rented car from D and D rentals. Highly recommend. The car was a simple small one that served us well. They delivered to hotel and also picked up at the end of our stay. Word of warning for driving in curaçao. Learn the roundabout rules. They can be very stressful to navigate especially during high traffic times. Other than that we had no issues driving. Visited many beaches. Decided we didn’t like paying entry fee so stuck with the ones that did not charge. Favourites were playa jeremi, playa Lagun, playa daaibooi. Absolutely refused to go to playa piskado due to the abuse of the turtles. Stopped at playa kalki and same was happening. Turtles swimming as they were being hand fed by fisherman looking for tips I imagine, and tourists touching and crowding them. Left there quickly. Ate mostly at local spots and it’s very true that eating where locals eat will never disappoint. Only had one meal out at El Gaucho and it was enjoyable. We did struggle with language barriers. Not with the staff or locals but with fellow tourists as it is obviously an island with a very high European influence so English was not heard very often except when cruise ships were in. All in all we had a great trip. We say we would go back as we didn’t finish exploring but most likely not without other friends travelling with us. Acoya was a good homebase for a reasonable price.

− The door "battery" from the room 2204 that i was given has died and i was locked out of my room. And needed ti wait in order for the security to change the "battery" but there wasn't any luck, i qas given the room 2313 then, i didn't even stay in the room because it was smelling like old clothes the rooms look different from in the pictures It didn't meet my expectations. Not worth 180$ per night
