Not What We Expected – Cleanliness Needs Serious Improvement

We stayed at Tropical Resort Langkawi for nine nights (although we had originally planned eleven). The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which we truly appreciated. However, our overall experience was mixed. While the hotel looks appealing in photos, our triple room was quite disappointing — dark, with dark walls, and unfortunately not very clean. It didn’t feel comfortable or well-maintained. In comparison, our friends who stayed in double rooms had much brighter and more spacious accommodations, which made a noticeable difference. Breakfast was another downside. The selection was very limited, and most of the food was often cold. There was also a lack of fresh vegetables — occasionally there was some cucumber or lettuce, but overall the options were quite poor. On the positive side, the pool area was nice, and the location is convenient, close to the beach and surrounded by pleasant surroundings. That said, cleanliness is something the hotel should seriously improve. The bathroom, including the shower and toilet, was not up to standard, and the cleaning service could definitely be more thorough. Even simple updates like repainting the walls or improving maintenance would make a big difference. In summary, the location and staff are strong points, but the cleanliness and room quality need significant improvement.

We had a lovely stay here and would happily recommend it. The location was excellent, very close to the beach with a private pathway, which was a really nice touch. It is also next to one of the best beaches on the island, which felt more natural and much cleaner than others we visited. It was also only a five minute walk to one of the best fire shows on the island, which made the location even better. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome throughout our stay. The breakfast was good, the pool was clean and well looked after, and the whole environment felt peaceful and relaxing. We especially loved hearing the birds around the property, which added to the calm atmosphere. We also felt very safe during our stay. Even when we left items outside our room, we never felt worried about them. Overall, it was a very comfortable and enjoyable place to stay.

I had a very pleasant stay at Tropical Resort Langkawi. The location is perfect—just a short walk from the beautiful Pantai Tengah beach and close to shops, restaurants, and convenience stores. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and surrounded by lush greenery, giving a peaceful, relaxing vibe. The staff is friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with local guidance. The pool area is well maintained and adds to the resort’s calm atmosphere. It’s an ideal place for couples, families, or anyone looking for a quiet escape near the beach. Great value for money, and I would happily stay here again.

I booked a 38 m² deluxe room, clearly advertised. What I was given was a space of barely 20 m², including the bathroom. Even the “smaller” categories they advertise (25 m²) are misleading, since this room was clearly much less. When I raised the issue, the only “solution” offered was breakfast – something I never booked or wanted. The manager then argued that I had chosen a king-size bed and therefore had to accept this room. That logic is unacceptable: square meters are not optional extras. What shocked me most was the manager’s behavior. Instead of taking responsibility, he repeatedly said “women like you are a problem” and even told me “I don’t want to have you here.” As a paying guest, this level of disrespect is beyond unprofessional. I am grateful the Booking platform recognized the misrepresentation and issued a refund, but this should never have happened. Travelers deserve honesty, transparency, and basic respect.

A little piece of paradise

My return visit was as wonderful as the first six months ago. Tropical Resort has a relaxed natural setting, with neat, clean and spacious rooms. Rest in the pool, walk along the path to the beach, admire the local wildlife, relax in the library or the pool, visit the many restaurants, spas and duty free shops literally next door or across the road. The staff are friendly and helpful. Simple but fabulous. It’s our go-to place to stay on Langkawi. We love it there.

Wonderful resort. Beautiful spacious and comfortable rooms, right on the beach and with a really lovely pool to relax by. Wifi worked perfectly and staff were friendly. Could not fault my stay one single bit. Great location, near some lovely restaurants and a short walk to the main tourist town area.
