− Property was closed being torn down and I wasn’t notified until I pulled into the parking lot and saw a bulldozer. I also received a text later that said the hotel was closed for over a month. No contact from the hotel Or bookings!

Just so you know, if you plan on going to Depoe Bay…do NOT book at Clarion/Choice Surfrider Resort. They were taking active bookings on April 28, 2026…even though (as we found out when we showed up on May 22, 2026) they have been CLOSED FOR DEMOLITION SINCE MAY 2025!!! They allowed online reservations knowing that the facility is being demolished…we were not the only people with reservations here for 2026 Memorial Day weekend. The neighbors said that we were at least the fifth car of people looking to check in based on their reservations. Evidently someone called the company and complained because at 2:15pm (we left Portland around noon for the long drive) we received a text message from the company. “Attempted to call you. The surfrider is permanently closed. Choice Hotels has been made aware of this approximately a month ago. It appears they have not notified everyone. The hotel is under construction. You will need to make other arrangements for a hotel in the area.” A voicemail was left at approximately the same time. THEY KNEW FOR A MONTH AND DID NOT CONTACT PEOPLE OR REMOVE THE HOTEL FROM ONLINE RESERVATIONS. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CHOICE HOTELS. THEY ARE NOT MANAGED WELL. It was a lot of fun trying to find decent accommodations on a holiday weekend! But thanks to wonderful friends, who found us a great room for our second night (our first night Hotel didn’t have an opening for night 2) we had a wonderful weekend “retreat” despite the egregiously incompetent actions of “Choice Hotels”.

Great bargain!

The location was excellent. Nothing was better than hearing and seeing the ocean right outside our window. Beach access was right at the hotel! The spa bathroom was a nice size, and a great bargain hotel overall.

− The photos definitely don't match the room, maybe they matched it 15 years ago. Maintenence, cleanliness, and decor has declined since those images were taken, But you do have everything you need and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The location makes up for the negative qualities 10 fold! My husband said he slept great here. No AC, so go when it’s cool out, and get the top floor for best views and quietness.

HOTEL CLOSED DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION

BEWARE! We arrived late in the evening in May to find that the place is permanently closed. We had a reservation and our credit card had been charged. We even received a confirmation just prior to our departure saying they look forward to our stay. We had to find last minute reservations in the area. Thank goodness this was May and not anytime in the summer or this would have been difficult. Since there was nobody at this establishment to reach out to, we had to try to recoup our money with corporate. Their website is still up and you are still able to make a reservation on their website, but everything has been demolished.
