The best host!
9.0Jon was a delightful host, who spoke enough English for our needs. He told us where the Metro station was to get into Bilbao city centre (a few minutes’ walk), gave us a map, told us which stop to get off to visit the Guggenheim museum, (about 40 minutes on the train), and which bars in the centre did the best pintxos. (El Globo, on Plaza Nueva). We followed his instructions, and he was certainly right about the pintxos! He also recommended a nearby restaurant for dinner, by the sea, about 4 km away, and we had a brilliant meal, so much so that we went back the next night for more! (Solito, in Sopelo, excellent). His B&B was a large house, he has 3 double rooms, ensuite, and 2 singles. It’s basic, but had all we needed. A kitchen, where Jon provided milk, OJ, tea, coffee, cereal, jam, croissants, toast, breakfast costing €4 each. He even put the heating on, as it was really cold in the mornings. There is space to park one car, a garden to sit in, and a fabulous huge friendly donkey in the field next door!
− Yes, the place is basic, but it had all we needed for a 2-night stay, and Jon was so helpful. Don’t be fussy, and Jon will see you right!
