10.0Absolutely beautiful country house, with original features, antique furniture and paintings, set in peaceful countryside but in walking distance of Kilmallock, a historic town. It's also within driving distance of various interesting places to visit, including Limerick, Rock of Cashel and Cork. Our room had a 4-poster, an elegant sitting area, lovely views across the fields, and a huge bathroom. Nicole and Simon were very welcoming hosts and provided a great breakfast, with honey from their own bees and some homemade banana bread. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Idyllic Stay in historic Irish Mansion
9.0Superb breakfast. All top quality local produce, including honey made from Ash Hill's own hives. Lots of variety, we had kedgeree one day. Wonderfully peaceful location with fine views of the Ballyhoura Mountains, and yet just a short walk from the facilities of Kilmallock town and the Local Link bus stop which connects with Kilfinane and surrounding villages. The old house itself is a gorgeous piece of living history in which Michael Collins once stayed after the Easter Rising. (At our insistence Simon gave us a fascinating tour.) We loved everything about our stay, most especially the welcome and helpfulness of our hosts.
− This is a personal thing, but we are cosseted townies and not used to being in the Irish countryside where it can get cold at night, even in May. There was no heating as standard in the rooms, but as soon as we mentioned this to Simon he arranged for us to to have an electric blanket, and all was well. Everything else was grand.
We enkoyed our stay and ised Ash Hill as our base for exploring the western parts of Ireland.
