Good experience
8.0We stayed at the hotel between Christmas and New Year as part of a family skiing trip. If you can accept the fact that this is a busy and working ski hotel and not a 5 star hotel like you might find in Dubai, it has almost everything you need for a good stay. Breakfast is really nice and there’s enough space. The gym is small but functional, unfortunately it doesn’t open before 8am which can make it tricky to coordinate your day. The pool is small but very clean and there is a lovely spa. Ski hire and lessons are really easy to set up as are passes and there were a lot of stay on hand to help. I would advise you to book your lessons before you arrive to avoid disappointment. Lockers for ski equipment are also easy to rent and staff are close by to help. The rooms and food were good and staff were very responsive to requests. However, it’s good to research what is on site before you arrive as location is somewhat isolated. I would recommend stopping at a supermarket on the way to stock up on snacks or other small items that might not be available on hand. The staff do work hard at the hotel and are trying hard to get it right, which isn’t something i would add without really seeing it in action every day.
Superb!
10.0The Shahdag hotel is a superb venue. Great ski in ski out resort. Cracking value. Ski hire, lessons, passes all available in one place. All great value. The spa is lovely after a long day skiing. I had a massage which was epic. Good breakfast. Comfy rooms. Really can’t fault it.
Should be a 5 star
10.0Where shall I start..... I booked thsi hotel upon a recommendation by a friend. The rooms are comfortable and have the comfort of a good five star hotel. I do n't think that you need to pay extra for teh Mountain view, both sides have mountain views and are great views. Breakfast is better than average but can be improved such as honey and cream proved can be local and slightly better quality. Else it was good. The biggest assest for this hotel, got to be it's staff. They all seemed happy and could not do more even if they tried. From the check in staff to reception staff, to waiters in the resturant and particularly the ladies making eggs(sorry I did not get their names so can't mention them by names but they were great). When we checked in , I enquired about the cable car as it was supposed to included in my booking according to the website that I booked through. Information on that website was out of date but he reception staff ( I think his name as Samir) gave us that complimentry. Later on the next day , we asked (I think her name was Kamilla (I am not sure )) who confirmed with Samir and organised that cable car. During this time we had missed our shuttle bus so she got us a taxi that we dd not pay for. Last two days that whole area had internet issues (beyond hotel control) I went to reception and wasn't happy that internet was poor. Sevinc from the recption appologies and even offered me hotspot from her personal mobile phone. This is way over and above expected of the staff. These small but significant gestures showed the staff who are working over and above the job description make this organisation successful. We also ate their restaurants, food portions are smaller but reasonably priced. Good taste. It is better to eat in this hotel or resturants within walking distance rather than the ones that the tourist guides take you. Their health centre and spa is good. Basic but good gym. Great pool, sauna and turkish hamam. Would I come back here? probably (If I come back to Shahdag again in near future)
Horrible. Pathetic. Avoidable even if free
2.0I honestly don’t usually write long reviews, but this one deserves it. My stay at Shahdag Resort & Spa was nothing like what’s shown online. The Wi-Fi was horrible. It kept disconnecting every few minutes and was almost unusable. I ended up depending on my 4G network, which worked way better. For a property that calls itself a five star, that’s just unacceptable. Cleanliness was another disappointment. Yes, spider webs seem to be common all around this region, but when you’re paying a premium price, you still expect your room and bathroom to be spotless. Mine wasn’t. There were webs in the bathroom, the shower head was broken, and even after turning the knob to maximum heat, the water stayed cold. Imagine having to shower with freezing water when the temperature outside is around six degrees. The so-called indoor heated pool with a jacuzzi was another letdown. The water was just lukewarm, and the jacuzzi was shut because there were “fewer guests.” If you’re promoting that as one of your main features, it should work regardless of how many people are staying there. Food and drinks are insanely overpriced. Since the resort is up in the hills with no other restaurants or delivery options nearby, you have no choice but to eat there. Whether you want a quick snack or a full meal, you’ll pay a ridiculous amount for it. The air conditioning in my room wasn’t working when I checked in. The room faces the plaza and got so hot during sunset that I had to call for maintenance before it was fixed. Even small things like dental kits weren’t there. They sent them later, but that’s something that should already be in the room. The shuttle service was a complete mess. They tell you it runs every 30 minutes to the town center, but that’s not true. Sometimes it came every hour, sometimes every two, and sometimes not at all. There’s no board showing the schedule, no communication from the staff. I waited more than three hours for the 5:30 shuttle, and when it finally arrived, the driver refused to take our luggage. The whole lobby knew we were waiting with our bags, and still no one informed us that luggage isn’t allowed. In the end, we had to book a taxi at our own cost. On Agoda, they even show an image saying something about complimentary cable car tickets. That’s not true either. The only things that are free here are the pool and the gym, and sometimes the sauna if it happens to be working. Everything else is paid, and the charges are absurd. And one more thing, be prepared for a serious language barrier. The staff hardly understands English. I once asked for extra coffee sachets and they sent a cup of coffee to my room instead, then billed me for it. Overall, the place looks nice in photos but it’s just not worth it. Everything here survives on the location, not the service. The management clearly doesn’t care about guest experience. If you’re expecting a real five star stay, you’ll be disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
