Quaint hotel in a super dog friendly town

First let's talk about the hotel... lovely, quaint hotel with lots of seating areas downstairs and outside. Free parking...closest parking for handicap, electric charging vehicles and diamond elite patrons. There is a valet there when you pull up to the hotel but we did not utilize his service. There were also bicycles stored there that can be rented from the hotel. At check in we were given one free drink coupon per person per night for their nightly happy hour (5-6pm). Happy hour provides a selection of wine and one type of beer (pretty sure it was an IPA)...and i did see apple juice boxes as well. The 'light refreshments' is freshly popped popcorn. Happy hour is well attended so come early if you'd like to get a nice spot to sit. We were told coffee and tea were available all day in the lobby but we only saw it available during the restaurant's breakfast hours. They had some great cold brew and i was able to add a few pumps of hazelnut/caramel/vanilla flavors. The limited availability may have been related to the restaurant's limited hours on the days we were there. Newspaper is provided each morning. They get a few copies of the Wall St Journal in the lobby and it's first come first serve. First morning we were too late...second morning we were better prepared and got to the lobby earlier! Rooms - small but nice. I was on the second floor and overlooked the wedding lawn. My room had 2 queen beds, a chair, a tiny round table next to the chair, a set of drawers, TV, a nightstand, an armoir for hanging clothes, and a small fridge with a very small freezer. Room provided a robe, a yoga mat, an iron, a flashlight, and a luggage rack. I had thought the hotel provided a dog bed and dog bowls but that was not the case. Dogs - no fee for the dog to stay at the hotel; there were probably 5 other dogs at the hotel the same time as us;. I had to sign a waiver that the dog would behave, not sit on the furniture and if the dog disturbed guests during quiet hours and I couldn't be reached...there would be a $250 fee. The dog was allowed everywhere in the hotel except inside the restaurant (fine for him to be in the outside part of the restaurant) and the pool area. I did not venture to the gym. Waste bags were available around the property. In the lobby was a water bowl, a 'stick' library, and one dog bed. The town was the most dog friendly town I've ever seen. My dog went into every store with me (outlets, Vermont Teddy Bear Co/Flannel Co). Every restaurant we chose had outdoor seating and the dog was allowed to join us outside. After check out, we drove over to Stratton Mountain Resort (1/2 hr) and rode the gondola up the mountain ($29/person)...and the dog went with us up the mountain! The Edit by Chase - I utilized my Chase Sapphire Reserve card, Edit credit and platinum elite status. We received $60 off at breakfast for two mornings. There were three of us, but the front desk simply gets the final bill and removes $60 each day. We utilized our $100 property credit for dinner at the restaurant. We did not enjoy our meal here at all but at least it was almost free. Lastly i want to comment on the 'guaranteed 4pm checkout (if available).' I asked upon arrival for late checkout and they told me to check back on checkout day. 7am on checkout day, i texted the front desk about late checkout but did not receive a response. I went down to the desk and was offered 1pm checkout (which is short of what should be offered for platinum elite status (2pm) or Edit (4pm). The 1pm checkout actually worked out fine for us so I didn't argue but just want to point out this data point to others expecting Edit perks. Planned this last minute getaway...Wed - Fri at the end of June. Learned we were in a bit of a shoulder season and it seemed as if things were going to pick up in town the following week. Due to the shoulder season, we found that some places had varying hours. Hotel provided us with 2 free tickets to Hildene upon request. There were 3 people in our room and we were able to get 3 free tickets. It was a nice place to visit...but dogs are not allowed. There were free golf carts w drivers provided throughout the property to take you from one site to the next (main house, train car, farm, etc). We were there for nearly 4 hours. Within walking distance was a pub restaurant (mulligans), a fancy restaurant (silver fork), the fly fishing museum, and orvis / orvis fly fishing school (free!).

Beware the hidden resort fee

It's a modern building done up to look like a traditional inn, with wraparound porch and library--sitting area. Good for a getaway if you don't demand much, as some corner-cutting is evident. Standard amenities such as a coffee maker are missing, and shops and the restaurant may be shuttered. Beware the resort fee. It's hidden in menus when you book online and doesn't show until you've given your credit card and clicked to book. When I complained, I was informed that it covered use of the pool (closed during our late-June visit) use of photocopy machine, and shopping coupons, as well as a few items that might actually be desirable, such as use of bikes.

Underwhelming experience

Pre booked as a part of a New England road trip. No restaurant on either of the days here. Don’t open midweek - not busy enough to bother! No bar either. Ist night bought our own wine to drink around the fire pit. 2nd night no fire pit. Enquired why and was told only the chef has access to the propane! But he wasn’t here so…?? Hotel very nice but facilities zero stars and disappointing given the cost of staying here plus the $40 amenity charge!!! Research other options before you stay here.

Great hotel in Manchester

Great hotel in Manchester! A little outside of town but in walking distance to town center and lots of restaurants. Modern, clean. Tons of comfortable seating areas, both indoors and outdoors. Big wraparound porch with couches and chairs. Outstanding coffee bar with iced and regular coffee, plant-based milks, flavored syrups. Nice staff. EV charging. Pool. Great value - we paid $150 on Priceline.

Celeste made our trip 100 times better, we couldn’t have asked for a friendlier, more kind and informative person to answer all our questions and help guide us on what activities we should do in Manchester for the day. We love her and we love the Taconic!!!!
