Not a good experience

4.0

Loud and disruptive, multiple things broken in the room. Hot tob not well maintained. Got a rash from it. Doctor said it's a bacteria from hot tub folliculitis or I was bitten by something while I slept

Great place to stay in Stowe

10.0

This place is a hidden gem. The hotel has spacious and clean rooms. Our air conditioning worked just great ( in fact it got so cool at night that we had to shut the ac off in the morning). The location is perfect right next to downtown and near all recreational activities. However, the experience is nothing without helpful staff. Which brings us to Zane. What an amazing person! A credit to the organisation. Zane is kind, charming, helpful, no, not just helpful but goes out of the way to make guests feel valued and appreciated. He truly is the best advertisement and ambassador for the Lodge.

Disappointed

4.0

Based off of the photos and website information, I expected a better experience. The pool area is run down to say the least. The pool is not heated as promised. Chairs are unusable. The shower is the room is incredibly small and run down. The mattress on the pullout couch is thin and extremely uncomfortable. The deck off the room is unusable as it is full of cobwebs and spiders. I think there was a time (maybe) this place had potential, but it is run down and unkept. Very disappointed. I would recommend finding somewhere else to stay. We will not be back.

Stylish and eccentric place to stay

8.0

Everything in Stowe is designed for skiing season, and I visited the Field Guide in the summer months. Therefore, my review will only be useful if you are also visiting in the off-season. The target market here is cool young people in their 20s, and I am considerably older than that, so that probably also impacts my review. In a world of generic hotels, Field Guide is eccentric. The hotel is decorated in what you might call a “1970’s skiing theme,” and the lobby and bar area are visually fun. The building seems to have had several additions over the years, creating an odd layout with lots of stairs and unusual angles. Staff members were also a bit eccentric but seemed nice enough. There is a fairly large swimming pool and a hot tub that requires reservations. There is a large bar area adjacent to the lobby. In January there might be a fun atmosphere there. It was quiet in June. The location is good. It’s about a half-mile outside of the village, so it was fairly easy to walk to the village. The hotel is on the main highway, with tons of restaurants stretched along the road for miles. We ate at a restaurant directly across the road, so that was convenient. The bathroom was small with no space for toiletries, so that may be a consideration for you. Tons of light comes in from the hallway around the sides and bottoms of the door, so it’s not very dark in the room when you are sleeping. Overall, it was an interesting stay here. If you are seeking experiences, you should consider it. If you are seeking maximum comfort or familiarity, this might not be the place. During ski season, this is probably a happening spot. During the summer, it’s a much quieter experience, but still worth considering.

Potential, but disappointing

4.0

Disappointing experience. The hotel is decorated appealingly and the bar and music was fun, but functionally it's obvious the renovation was cosmetic only. As other reviewers said, walls are thin and you hear everything, people talking, alarms going off, the doors are thin and don't go to the floor so there's light from the hallway all night long. Snowplows were loud and took forever in parking lots in the middle of the night. Poor sleep every night between people leaving the bar late and plows in the middle of the night and others' alarms going off early. Shower door almost fell off due to dry rotted plastic part, bathroom floor grout had dissolved leading to loose tiles that tilt and my husband slipped. The hot tub wasn't really hot and smelled off somehow. We ended up with an itchy rash. Doors are locked at 9. We got back from dinner at 9:15 and were locked out in 10 degree weather; no one responded to calls or texts to after hours line. We walked around the building for 15 mins and finally another guest let us in by the bar. Staff didn't get up from their office when we checked out and just yelled for us to leave the key. We cancelled a stay at another Lark hotel in a different ski town as a result of this experience.

Not As Advertised

2.0

I understand having a band in town but I do not understand how it was not mentioned that music would be playing deep into the night with bass shaking the third floor rooms. When we called the front desk from our rooms, who told us it would initially be over by 10:30, they could only give us “its ending soon I think” at 11:30 PM, but was not actually ending. For a place advertised as a ski lodge it’s not friendly to skiers waking up early to go hit the slopes. Just an overall unfriendly, uncomfortable experience in what had a ton of amazing potential.
