Very average place
6.0We didn't stay here just had food in their restaurant. Unfortunately there aren't too many options in Kirkwall, so we were lucky enough to get a table here. I wouldn't say it's the best restaurant. The service is not very friendly and the place itself lacks luster. We ordered their soup of the day and scampi and chips both of which were all right. I wouldn't recommend this place.
Got turned away from the restaurant
2.0Restaurant looked lovely. Bar rowdy. Didn’t get to try the food as you turned us away for having dogs, despite having only three covers eating. We would have spend £60 or so, but we never got the chance. Oh well, enjoy the cruise liners instead. Such a shame really.
Not a great experience
4.0The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good value with a fair selection in the menu. The room was poor standard in general. However there was a kettle and tea and coffee provided. The bed was comfy but the furnishings were dated, the carpet was stained, the surrounding area of the bed I slept in was un clean. Once in bed it was impossible to see the TV because of the room layout. The curtains were hanging off the rails and could be fixed with just a few more hooks. The bathroom was in need of an upgrade. Clean towels were provided each day. It was a disappointing room
Great location
10.0Very close to ferry’s and bars and restaurants
Grim introduction to Kirkwall
4.0This hotel is a very shabby establishment badly in need of a complete makeover. The front door set the tone - dirty, scruffy and marked, This is basically a pub with 6 rooms to let. Our room had a good view over the harbour, but furnishings were old and chipped, not as clean as possible, tea making area with directly under the TV (health & safety issue) - we moved it. The shower was very small and rickety, and base was damaged. A lot of noise from the bar below, often till after midnight. If I had not paid in advance, I would not have stayed.
