I was initially planning to go to Mount Fuji and then found Gora Kadan in the Hakone area. It seemed like a very luxurious and traditional Japanese inn/onsen and I figured I would head to Hakone just to stay at Gora Kadan. I'm glad to say that this was my best decision when planning my trip to Japan as Gora Kadan was easily one of the most beautiful hotels I've stayed in. The staff, customer service, location, rooms, facilities, food, etc. were all top notch and everyone at the inn did their utmost best to make sure we were well taken care of. I also really appreciate that any booking you do will include one of the members of staff accompanying you to the facility. In our itinerary, we booked a room with our own private outdoor onsen, a lunch at their Kaiseki restaurant, a dinner at their exclusive and difficult to book Sushi restaurant, a stay at the swimming pool and Jacuzzi, and finally a massage/facial treatment. Everything we did was excellent and what stood out the most was easily the traditional Japanese breakfast. We have had some previously in our trip, but this was easily the most impressive version with pretty much everything you could think of out of classic Japanese cuisine. I would also personally like to give a huge thanks to the staff who helped me reserve the Sushi restaurant. I was a little worried as the place said "temporarily closed" up until the day of our trip and I was pleasantly surprised that everything was in fact properly booked and we got to experience some of the best sushi we ever had.

− I honestly can't find any faults. The only thing would be that I wish we stayed longer as it was a really magical moment together with my partner.

Le service personnalisé. Notre room assistant était adorable. Nous avons eu une vraie expérience traditionnelle. Les repas du soir étaient excellents. L’onsen était également un moment très agréable

− Cependant, nous avons trouvé quelques équipements un peu vétustes, la piscine notamment.

A wonderful modern interpretation of a traditional ryokan in a beautiful mountainous area.

For us it was a unique and wonderful experience of what (we imagined) to be in a traditional ryokan. The staff were so helpful and welcoming, and the food was also fantastic.

− Sleeping on a futon was very comfortable…..but once you reach a certain age, getting out of bed and back on your feet can be a little difficult!
