We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is terrific and made it easy to explore the city on foot. The rooms are compact but exceptionally well designed, comfortable, and thoughtfully detailed. It's clear that a lot of care has gone into the overall design of the hotel. There were just two areas where the experience could be improved. Firstly, there isn't really a suitable shared space for guests who need to spend an hour or two working on a laptop. Given the size of the rooms, a quiet area with tables and power points would be a welcome addition. Secondly, we found the front desk could have been a little more attentive to our needs. On one occasion we needed assistance with a time-sensitive request, and despite raising it well in advance, we ultimately had to resolve the situation ourselves. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would happily recommend the hotel. With a little more attention to these operational details, it would be an outstanding place to stay.

Friendly Service, but the Room Fell Well Short of 4-Star Expectations

Disappointing Room Design for a 4-Star Hotel Our stay at Casa Bonay in Barcelona was, unfortunately, disappointing. I would like to begin by saying that the staff were exceptionally friendly, courteous and professional throughout our stay. Their service was one of the highlights of our visit. However, as an architect, I found the design and functionality of our room to be well below what I would expect from a 4-star hotel. The room lacked even the most basic practical amenities. There was no comfortable chair to sit on and no small table or desk where I could use my laptop. The bedside tables were mismatched and offered very little functionality. Upon entering the room, we were greeted by a low cabinet containing a small refrigerator, alongside an open clothes rack. There was no enclosed wardrobe, leaving clothing completely exposed, which contributed to a rather temporary, backpacker-style atmosphere rather than that of a quality 4-star hotel. The complimentary refreshments were also disappointing. While a couple of tea bags were provided, there was no coffee available in the room. This is a basic expectation in most 4-star hotels and seemed like an unnecessary omission. The bathroom was another letdown. Although attractively presented, the layout was poorly designed, and the toilet compartment was extremely cramped, making it uncomfortable to use. Having recently stayed in another 4-star hotel in Rome, the contrast was significant. That experience met the standard we expected, whereas Casa Bonay fell well short in terms of room comfort, functionality and overall guest experience. While we genuinely appreciated the excellent service provided by the staff, the room itself did not represent what we believe a 4-star hotel should offer. Regrettably, based on this experience, we would not choose to stay at Casa Bonay again when we next visit Barcelona.
