Heaven in Flumeri
10.0This lovely, mountainside hotel was one of our best stays anywhere EVER!! The owner/manager Sergi took care of us himself, since it was shoulder season and we had the hotel to ourselves, and his incredible Mama was the chef for one of our best meals in Italy -- or maybe anywhere. From anitpasto to dessert it was delicious and fun, and the wine pairings (including one red from their OWN vineyard!!) were fabulous. We started with prosecco and ended with a surprisingly delicious grappa for the sweet tart that was an epiphany of pairing. The night was quiet and comfortable, and the overly-sumptuous breakfast prepared us for the sadness of saying farewell to one of the best (and best-priced) stays we have had in decades of international travel. Flumeri is convenient between Naples and Bari, and the few kms off the toll road are VERY well worth it. Follow the signs to this little bit of heaven, and be sure to walk/drive up into town for the high view of the gorgeous scenes of the surrounding countryside. Magnifico!!
