An Exceptional Experience – Waking Up to the Sounds of Monkeys and Birds

7.0

The location of the lodge is exceptional. Just a 25-minute speedboat ride from the city, it is secluded in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. The cabins are scattered throughout the beautifully maintained gardens, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, with the sounds of birds and monkeys creating an unforgettable atmosphere. It was truly a unique experience. The cabins are spacious, comfortable, and designed to make you feel immersed in the jungle while remaining well protected with mosquito screens throughout. This allows you to fully enjoy the sights and sounds of the rainforest without compromising your comfort. Guests can refill their water bottles free of charge at the Eco Center, where all the excursions depart. The excursions were very well organized, and our guide, Joaquin, was extremely knowledgeable, informative, and passionate about the region. Overall, this is the perfect place for anyone seeking peace, relaxation, and a true connection with nature. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay. Electricity is switched off for a few hours around midday and again from 11:00 p.m. until early morning. However, this was not an inconvenience at all. In fact, it helped us disconnect from everyday life, relax even more, and fully embrace the experience of staying in the Amazon rainforest.

What I disliked the most—and what significantly affected my rating—was the way we were treated regarding the payment process. After picking us up from the airport and driving us to the pier where we were supposed to board the speedboat to the lodge, the staff stopped at an old building that they described as the company's headquarters so that we could settle the payment. The building looked abandoned. Inside, there were a few offices and many empty rooms, while others were cluttered with furniture and equipment. I found it hard to believe that the headquarters of a company operating luxury lodges would look like this. Once there, I was asked to pay in Peruvian soles. However, the amount they requested was equivalent to approximately €1,900, even though my reservation clearly stated that I was supposed to pay around €1,780. I asked to pay in US dollars, but I was told that this was not possible using the card terminal and that I would have to use an online payment link instead. I did not feel comfortable making such a large payment through an unfamiliar link, so I asked if I could pay at the lodge instead, hoping we could find another solution. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the lodge, while all the other guests were welcomed with a complimentary drink and given time to relax, I was immediately taken aside to resolve the payment issue. Once again, I was given only two options: either pay the inflated amount in soles by credit card or use the online payment link in US dollars. I felt I was left with no reasonable alternative. Since I was already at the lodge, with no practical way to leave, I reluctantly paid more than the amount stated in my reservation. In my opinion, this is an unacceptable practice, especially for a property in this price range. The food was also well below our expectations, particularly considering the cost of staying at the lodge. Breakfast was rather limited, with very few choices. Lunch and dinner were slightly better.

I loved my stay at Inkaterra Concepción! The location is fantastic right in the rainforest and just a short boat ride from Puerto Maldonado. My room was beautiful and spacious, and every meal we had was delicious. The excursions were amazing, and the entire staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also visited the spa during my stay, which was great and so relaxing. I would definitely stay here again!

Overall, totally excellent experience. Joaquin was an excellent guide, almost all the staff were great, amazing location and cabaña. Mother nature.

Very rude bar staff woman, who was known to the other staff for being rude. Our first guide lady wasn't great but they swapped us to an excellent Joaquin after we insisted (all of us in our group).

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experie

8.0

I really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and the variety of guided tours available. My guide, Benoit, was amazing and truly made my last day special—the perfect finishing touch to a wonderful experience. Other guides, were also very knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. The location was convenient, and the food was great as well. Overall, I had an excellent experience and would highly recommend it

One challenge was staying in the main house, as it could be quite noisy. You could hear a lot of everyday sounds, from dishes being cleaned to neighboring guests using the bathroom. I also wish there had been mosquito nets or mesh screens, as I got quite a few mosquito bites during my stay. Another downside for me was that refreshments were not included, aside from the basics. Other than these minor issues, everything else was great, and I had an enjoyable experience overall.
