Great value for money stay in a great spot

Morino Lodge is a great value for money stay in Akakura. A short uphill walk to the bus for access to the other resorts and is short walk to restaurants and shops. The lodge has a lovely onsen for afternoon recovery, the bedrooms are a good size, and staff are friendly.

− Only downfall is the slow breakfast in the mornings, but otherwise the breakfast itself is a nice spread of options.

Onsen, large Bed size and room size, The washing machine situation was excellent. Breakfast was European, missed that there wasn't even pickles to remind us we were in Japan. Beers on tap

− Staff although friendly, has a very relaxed - end of season vibe going on. Coffee, even when we paid extra to have a cappacino it was average

More like a backpacker lodge than a 4 star hotel!

Nice lodge with bigger than average rooms and comfy beds. Big and bright communal dining and lounge area. Good location just a short walk up the hill to the bus stop or Akakura Onsen chairlift.

− What could be a fantastic experience in a lovely lodge is let down by the staff issues, as mentioned in previous reviews. We decided to take a chance but realised the past negative reviews were 100% correct. The staff seem to outnumber the guests, and the majority were unfriendly unless spoken to first. Good luck getting a seat at the bar area, always full of staff and friends drinking....smoking at the front entrance door....parties and bonfires with snowboard jumping competitions outside guest rooms til nearly midnight...lots of staff in onsens washing clothes in change rooms and drinking together in outside onsens with guests present. This is a MANAGEMENT issue! Of course these young staff will take advantage if allowed. Even after complaining to one of the 3 managers Jeff, and a staff meeting ensuing, nothing changed. The other 2 managers don't seem to think this is a problem either. We definitely felt as if we were intruding in a backpacker lodge, but we definitely weren't paying backpacker lodge room rates!! Breakfast could have been amazing if it wasn't cold most of the time. Big choice of food but someone needs to sort out the bain maries, cold hashbrowns / eggs / mushrooms / bacon nearly every morning.
