Isla Flotante Los Uros, Puno, PE
Rustic, pricey but nice to see Uros w/o tourists
6.0My stay at Titikala was a little bit odd. I expected that it would be a homestay, but it's more like a lodge for tourists, and when you've booked a spot, some locals come and also stay there (at least that was the impression I got, things were not actually ever explained to me). Uros can be very touristy during the morning, so it was interesting to be there in the evening, and to be able to kayak around, without all the tourist boats. Some things to note: locals do not speak ANY English. Not recommended unless you are conversational in Spanish. It is FREEZING in Uros. The lodge has lots of blankets, but I still slept in two jackets, a hat, and gloves. There was no electricity or running water while I was there, and toilet is a clean outhouse. I was expecting as much, so was not a big deal for me. The price is also very high- there are homestays available on the other nearby islands for ~$30, so I'd recommend researching some more options.
