Perfect place to get away from it all
10.0In the dozen or so years that we have stayed at the Brier Island Lodge, we have seen tremendous improvements in the property. Most recently, all the doors, cedar shingles and upper floor/stairway railings have been replaced on the third building, making for a more polished exterior. All else remains as we have known it over the years: A clean, comfortable room with a wonderful view of the Grand Passage. The appropriately named Grand View Dining Room continues to serve delicious meals. The hiking trail out to Gooseberry Cove provides wonderful birding experiences, connecting with Seal Cove, which provides (as the name suggests) wonderful opportunities to see the seals. And, of course, the whale watching experiences in the Bay of Fundy are second to none. Brier Island is one of our favorite getaways. We'll keep coming back!
don't stay at the Brier Island Lodge !!
2.0as a senior couple .... we decided to take a last minute trip to Brier Island... it's not far from where we live ... 2+ hours ... sooooo .. we thought .... why not stay over night ! We booked on a Thursday afternoon - to stay Friday night -- we were told 'there were not many rooms available, that had a patio or deck' -- 'but we do have a king suite, ground floor , with a patio' = for $279 a night plus $8.37 - levy service, and $40.23 sales tax --- total $327.60 for 1 night .... we said ok book it for us. we arrived just after 2pm and checked in .... went in to our room, and found it adequate ,,, but -- trying to connect to their ''free wi-fi'' did not work ... thought hmmmmm ,,, and tried again in a little while ,,, still nothing . Husband goes up to the front desk and asked about it --- and was told 'we are having troubles with the wi-fi' - so he came back to the room - that we had NOT touched -- we just went out on to the patio and enjoyed a cocktail .... a short while later I mentioned .. 'did you try the TV yet ? ' because we had one in our room - where most of the rooms did NOT have a TV in the room -- we tried the TV - and of course it did not work, as it too runs with a wi-fi signal - Roku - .... at this point we're quite upset, as we had planned to watch the Fifa soccer game that evening ! once again husband goes up to the front desk , and talks to the desk clerk about the wi-fi ,, and he asked her how long has the wi-fi been out - her reply '' since yesterday'' , he then asked her - '' why didn't you tell us that when we checked in - because we wouldn't have checked in to begin with'' -- she had no answer, but just then the manager walked in to the reception -- so husband talked to him ,,, and asked the same questions about the wi-fi -- manager - George - said '' it just went off at 4am - and it's beyond our control'' and husband asked the same question --- '' why were not told on check in'' -- George had no answer either ... but ... he did say ''if you're not happy you can just leave'' -- and the receptionist said ''you haven't been charged yet, so there will be no charges to you'' ..... not only was the wi-fi down .... but .... there were workers who had a sewer cover open right next to the room, and the stench was horrendous ! sooooooo we couldn't even sit out side on our very expensive patio to enjoy the water view -- which we paid a premium price for -- or any thing else ..... sooo -- we did what George told us to do if we were not happy --- WE LEFT -- and we did ask for a receipt that stated we would NOT be charged any dollar amount -- they would not give us one !! -- this was 1 + 1/2 hours later --- wellllll just to say , we looked at our bank account today, the day we would have checked out ,,,, and --- there is a charge of $200 from the Brier Inn Lodge Ltd. --- needless to say .......... husband gets on the phone, with George the manager , to dispute the $200 fee for NOT using the room - we didn't even sit on the bed ! George says ''they found the room in upheaval,'' which is a blatant lie ! -- we left the the room as we found it when we walked in ..... I am 70 and my husband is right behind me in age ! --- not only is George the manager ,, a fabricator of lies -- but he is a very rude individual --- husband said to George the manager that we will dispute this with the credit card company,,,, and George to us ''go ahead and try ... and ... NEVER call the Lodge ever again''' sooooo dear people be very carful where you book a hotel room -- check every thing out as soon as you step in the door ! and take pictures when you leave ! a couple of ''old fools''
The Place To Stay
8.0In fairness Brier Island has a population of ~200 and this is the only hotel on the island with 1 restaurant and 1 pub. The location is good and the views from the lounge and restaurant are great. Free Wifi, parking and there are EV chargers. Not all rooms have TVs, AC or microwaves, but they have fridges and not all rooms have a good ocean view. The rooms are well maintained and clean, the bathrooms floors good do with a bit more elbow grease. The staff are friendly and helpful. It’s not the Ritz but then you shouldn’t expect it to be.
Good place to stay
10.0Nice rooms, with great views of the grand passage & harbour. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff were warm and friendly, always open for a chat and offer advice on things to do. There is a nice restaurant on site offering good food offering evening meals and breakfast.
