Lovely room but its a shame you can't open the window

8.0

Lovely welcome, nice bedroom and shower, nice decor

You couldn't open the window and on a very hot evening it felt very claustrophobic. I always sleep better with a window open. A fan was provided but we both woke up blocked up.

Good stay above rather busy bar

7.0

Good location, sound-proof windows, clean, tidy and comfy room, nicely decorated. Close to shops where you can buy food and close to bus stops as well. Barnard Castle is a nice town to stay in with bus connections to Raby Castle, High Force, Darlington and even Kendal.

Information sheet suggested there were two working wifi connections available. Our phones could not detect ‘the best connection’ of the two and the other one was more often not working than working. Host was very busy with the bar downstairs and our request for a few more tea bags was not passed on to him. We helped ourselves to a few more from a cupboard that was left open on the landing. We felt we were at the bottom of the list of priorities compared to the people in the bar who also looked us up and down if we went to our room after a day away, so we avoided going via the bar and used the fire exit instead. There was quite a lot of noise from people in the bar during nightly hours (3 am) when England was playing during the WC. We understand people wanted to watch, but the loud cheering woke us up every time a goal was scored. We were travelling the next day… The beds were only 1.90 cm long, so our feet were sticking out. Edge of the bed was soft, so acceptable in the summer.
