5.0It was like being in a new version of Fawlty Towers! Which didn't mean it was a horrid experience, but some would find it totally bizarre! We took it as it was, and had a laugh or three... It was the hottest day of the year, but we were told the kitchen was shut because it was too hot. No sh+t Sherlock, we'd traveled all day with no air-con and we were hot and exhausted ourselves! To their credit they did serve us a meal, which was Beef and Mushroom Stroganoff, which was good. When we finished, we were entertained by the landlady, who was clearly based on a John Cheese character. Funny and didn't hold back with language, reminding used that "It's too f**king hot to p*ss about" when my mate got his pin wrong... We laughed out heads off, but if you can't put up with this, don't book to stay here!
− The rooms were a bit dated, but more than acceptable for the money and nice and clean. They closed the bar before 9pm, so we took our own beer back and drank it in the garden outside or rooms on the second night... That's your own fault!! 9pm? Come on, seriously! Neither of us are big drinkers, but we're not kids who need to go to bed early either. If you're expecting a drink late into the night, don't book here. If you're okay with this, then do. There isn't anything other than the pub (possibly good walks) in the village, so this has to be another factor to be considered. It is situated great for events at the Radley Hall Estate, but you'll still need to drive or ride there. I'm summary, if you want to be an extra in an adults only lving comedy series, book and enjoy. If not, find something more refined (and probably pay more?)
Short stay at the Marie Celeste
5.0It was in the right place for us to be half way along our journey . We made a mistake with our booking and they did sort us out but no one seemed to know what was happening.
− It didn’t open, no staff answered the phone till 5.30pm There seemed to be a group having a meal there and they left about 8.30 . So did any staff. We were just left alone in our room and didn’t manage to get a drink at the pub. In the morning there was no one to take our keys there was a small open door but no one answered when we tried to give them the keys
Convenienf and c9mfortable
9.0Basic but very clean, ideal for our needs
− Shower works ok but might need modernising
A quick stop over to break a motorcycle journey.
7.0Very welcoming on a very hot day. They were busy with many motorcyclists staying here for the ABR festival at Ragley Hall all looking to eat. It was a very hot day but the landlord / chef managed to produce several dozen good meals despite the heatwave. Whilst his - if I’m honest very elderly - mother / landlady (?) managed the bar and waitressing to keep a dozen or more bikers fed and watered as well as her regulars, all with a smile. The landlord was used to motorcyclists and the property offers reasonably secure off road parking.
− Nothing disliked although the rooms were basic and in a separate annex - but they matched the price. Fans would have been appreciated in the rooms perhaps? The whole place seemed tired and in need of a refresh but that would be a struggle given the cost of running hospitality places and properties like this in the current environment.
Great value for money in pretty village location
6.0Pub was in a great location in a lovely village. The food at the pub was very good, The room we stayed in was basic but big and very clean.
− My only complaint was that the cold water in the shower was not working which meant the shower was so hot you couldn't used it
