8.0The location is perfect. Host provided bicycles for getting around. There is a Lawsons right behind the house where you can even buy groceries like leeks, onions, potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes....something I did not discover till the very last day of my stay. The host was responsive n very helpful with our queries. The machiya house is truly quaint n beautifully decorated. I loved the 3 exquisite pieces of hanging fabrics above the bed headboard! I would lay on the bed n admire the colors shimmering in the morning light each day. The surrounding is quiet in spite of how close the house is to the main street.
− Would have been great if, upon online check in, the house code could be provided. Instead I'd to call them to obtain the code and the parking instructions. It was a little worrisome as I'd arrived when it was dark and rainy n had dialled several numbers which didn't go through. However, when I did finally reach someone, she was very helpful. I did not like the front door. It slides open and close very noisily. I was afraid to disturb the peace of the neighbourhood every time I opened and closed the door. Bedroom windows let in a lot of light as early as 4am. I had to resolve this by moving a folding screen for coats from the dining room to the bedroom and hang a bunch of clothes on it to block out the light. Maybe a pulldown blackout screen would have been great? Also, the parking isn'tby the house, but rather a short walk away at another parking area with a designated spot. Not a big issue, as I cycled most of the time and only needed to drive to further parts of kanazawa. Overall, all these are very small problems.
