8.0We love the Blue Lion. Location, building, staff....all brilliant. There are some minor things which could do with tweaking: soundproofing of rooms (18th century floorboards!!), opening up the lovely garden at the back for its pub, revising of its OTT priced wine list.
One of my favourite places to stay
8.0Standard double was not very big - for reference we stayed in the hotel du vin at York the previous week and the standard was super big. It was clean but we stayed for two nights and the room wasn't refreshed or made up on day two which was unexpected and disappointing. On the plus side the staff were incredibly friendly and the food and drinks were exceptional. I've been coming to this gem of a hotel / gastro pub since 1992 and it is one of my favourite places to be. The village is very pretty and the walks from the hotel take in some breathtaking scenery. Just to add the hotel is dog friendly and usually (not this time) includes doggie treats in your room.

6.0Really really unpleasant proprietress, rude and unwelcoming. Probably best to avoid, shame as it is a nice place and the rest of the staff were pleasant.
