Great location, but you don’t spend much time in the room

6.0

The main benefit is waking up in the park ready to hike. The lodge itself is beautiful with great amenities but the rooms are a bit dingy in comparison. Significant water damage to the wood inside and a stained carpet that I didn’t really want to put my bare feet on for $425 a night.

Park Amazing, Room Not Worth Price Tag

4.0

For the price of this room, I had much higher expectations. I don’t mind a rustic, cabin-like experience—in fact, that’s exactly what I wanted. But “rustic” shouldn’t mean sacrificing the basics. I expect bedding to feel as clean and fresh as it does at a Marriott. Use washable duvet covers that are laundered between every guest instead of heavy comforters that leave you wondering how often they’re cleaned. We travel full-time while working remotely, and in 2026 reliable Wi-Fi isn’t a luxury—it’s a baseline expectation. We have Starlink and still had to put our receiver on the roof just to get enough signal to check email and join conference calls. It’s one thing to disconnect while you’re out exploring the park; it’s another to have virtually no connectivity in your room. This is a solvable problem, and improving internet access would make a huge difference for today’s travelers. There are so many small, inexpensive improvements that could completely transform this place. For what we paid for a single night—over $500—a quick shopping trip to HomeGoods could elevate these cabins into a warm, stylish retreat that guests would rave about for years. Better bedding, updated décor, softer lighting, and a few thoughtful touches would go a long way. Instead, the experience reminded me of staying at a church youth retreat in the 1990s. I’m 46, and while the nostalgia was real, it wasn’t what I expected for a $500+ per night stay. The location is incredible, and the lodge has so much potential. With a few modern updates and attention to guest expectations, this could become a destination people love just as much as the scenery surrounding it.

Mother and Daughter Road Trip

We enjoyed our stay at the Big Sur lodge! We loved being surrounded by the Redwoods. Our dinner salads were very good! We had a great experience and would definitely come back again!

Amazing location but expensive for standard of lodges.

Location amazing

Lodges felt dirty, the carpet on the floor was filthy and my feet were black after walking around with bare feet after a shower. The rooms smell really strongly of fire.
