8.0The location is excellent, and the castle itself is absolutely stunning from the outside. The property has so much character and is a beautiful place to stay. The towels and bed linen were spotless, smelled fresh, and were very comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the staff serving it were friendly, welcoming, and polite, which made for a pleasant start to the day.
− The biggest disappointment was that, despite staying at the hotel, we weren’t able to experience the castle itself without paying an additional fee. We politely asked if we could simply have a quick look inside the entrance, but we were immediately asked to leave. The gardens behind the castle and vineyards were also inaccessible, with signs stating “Private Property – Do Not Enter.” It felt as though the castle is used to attract guests, yet they are not actually able to enjoy any part of it, which was very disappointing. Our room was in one of the small towers near the entrance gate, on the top floor. While we expected an old room in keeping with the historic building, it was poorly maintained. The bathroom was not clean, with dust and cobwebs throughout. A property of this calibre deserves much better attention to cleanliness and guest experience.
