10.0This place is really special on beautiful Mannar Island. We stayed in the Chalet. It was very comfortable and beautifully and tastefully decorated. A calm and serene place. The balcony has views overlooking a lovely natural area. The food was delicious and very reasonable prices. The pool is lovely and clean and serene. There are walks you can do around to watch the birds. The staff were exceptionally attentive and we enjoyed their conversation. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Palmyra House is soooooo beautiful and we loved it all.

This was the most expensive hotel of the 14 we stayed in on this trip and does not provide the facilities to match, it’s
3.0The raised platform walk across the lagoon in the early morning
− Outdoor restaurant dining surrounded by wetlands under spotlights meant being plagued by insects throughout dinner, the staff tried altering lighting with table lamps but everyone was complaining which is maybe why all the staff looked so miserable. We clothed suitably but bitten on our hands whilst dining is not great, mosquitoes in room and no plug in repellant Also being insisted upon to order breakfast at end of evening meal, what is that all about, don’t you do fresh eggs and pancakes are they made the night before?

5.0The wildlife was very good. The suite was large and spacious and the staff were pleasant
− The place is in a state of disrepair. It cannot be blamed on the recent cyclone as historical pictures show the same state of disrepair. The 1st impression is that this hotel is run down and unloved. The food is unimaginative, especially breakfast and every meal is served with cheap white sliced bread. The hotel lacks someone with high end hotel management experience. The staff are helpful and friendly but unfortunately that isn't enough to market yourself as a prestige hotel.
