Best Courtyard we've stayed at — but keep expectations realistic
8.0
We stayed 4 nights/5 days at the Courtyard by Marriott Siem Reap Resort and were very happy with it. The choice was mainly driven by this being the only hotel in Siem Reap within the Marriott chain (Meridien being renovated).
It's probably the best Courtyard we've stayed at. Service was good, and the hotel is well maintained.
Breakfast is very extensive, with countless hot options from various cuisines (Cambodian, Indian, Western).
Too bad the pool temperature was a bit on the warm side — it felt more like a warm bath than a refreshing pool. Not sure how this compares to other hotels.
Also a shame the spa never reopened after Covid, as there aren't many massage options nearby (for that you need to head into the town center, which isn't too far though).
Two things to be aware of:
- The hotel is located a bit outside the touristic center (about a 10-minute drive depending on traffic), but is conveniently located for the temples.
- While it may be the best Courtyard we've ever visited, don't expect 5-star luxury. It's mainly a solid premium product at a good price.
We would definitely return.
Very nice!

Very beautiful big spacious rooms. The staff are very friendly and always greeting you back with a fresh wet towel
− The rooftop bar was closed during our entire stay and also once when i ordered room service i asked to pay later at the lobby but the staff kept coming back to my room (even woke me up) asking me to pay as if I was going to rob them
Unfortunately no recommendation
2.0
While the frontline staff at this resort were friendly and attentive, my overall experience was completely ruined by a severe case of food illness after consuming food at the property, followed by an incredibly disappointing and unprofessional response from the management team.
Instead of handling a serious health and safety concern with empathy and accountability, the management's reaction was rigid and dismissive. In their communications, they tried to offset this severe health issue by listing standard Marriott Bonvoy Platinum elite benefits—such as early check-in and room upgrades—as if they were "favors" or gestures of goodwill to make up for ruined days of a vacation.
To make matters worse, the management's internal record-keeping is deeply flawed. In their official response, they claimed to have provided celebratory setups and amenities (like a cake) that we never actually received. It is highly unprofessional for a Marriott property to confuse guest reservations when addressing a formal complaint.
The management's complete lack of flexibility, failure to address a serious health incident properly, and chaotic internal communication make it impossible for me to recommend this hotel. If you expect premium service standards and professional crisis handling, look elsewhere in Siem Reap.
One of the best courtyard you'll visit.

2 nights Courtyard Siem Reap. It was low season so the hotel was quiet. We were welcomed with ice cream and a cold towel during check in. They gave us a welcome gift of fruit in the room. One of the best breakfast buffet (complimentary for platinum or higher) and sadly we only ate there one morning as we had a sunrise tour the following morning. Get the steamed bun with taro, it was good. They also make to order dosa. Pool was nice too. Staff always very helpful when they saw us. For Americans traveling to Siem Reap, all businesses have prices in dollars or Cambodia Riel so you can just bring dollars (I'd have small bills). This hotel is about 15 min from Angkor Wat. Not many options for Marriott and I'd stay again. A 6 seater van is about $55 USD one way to the airport.
Of note we at Yi Nget BBQ sticks (twice), Khmer Grill and Angkor Hand Pulled Noodles and Dumplings in the city center. Would recommend all of them.

Great good, fantastic pool and reasonable rates. Well locted too for Angkor Wat and the town centre.
− Honestly nothing.
A Beautiful Property Let Down by Confusion, Poor Communication and an Ultimate Stay Package That Simply Doesn't Deliver
6.0
As a Lifetime Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member who has stayed at Marriott properties around the world for many years, I rarely leave negative reviews. I also appreciate that things occasionally go wrong. What matters is how they are handled. Unfortunately, our experience at Courtyard by Marriott Siem Reap has been one of the most disappointing Marriott stays I have encountered.
My family and I are staying for nine nights, so we deliberately chose Marriott because we expected consistency, professionalism and recognition of loyalty. Instead, our arrival immediately set the tone for what became a series of avoidable disappointments.
We arrived after a long journey expecting a smooth check in, only to spend more than 40 minutes standing in the lobby while staff tried to understand our reservation. Nobody appeared to fully understand the "Ultimate Stay Package" that we had booked. Different staff members provided different explanations, there was uncertainty about what was included, and we were simply asked to continue waiting while they tried to work it out.
For a Lifetime Titanium Elite member, this was extremely disappointing. Elite recognition should mean a seamless arrival, not becoming part of an internal discussion about the hotel's own packages. It immediately created uncertainty instead of confidence.
Even after eventually receiving our room, the confusion continued.
Before arrival, I had specifically confirmed the bedding configuration through the Marriott Bonvoy App. Depending on the room upgrade, we required either one or two rollaway beds for our family. Different prices had been quoted by different departments, with one team confirming USD15 per night before arrival, while another later advised USD30. This inconsistency required further clarification when it should already have been organised before we arrived.
The biggest disappointment, however, has been the Ultimate Stay Package itself.
If you are considering purchasing this package, I strongly recommend reading every detail very carefully.
The package appears attractive when booking, but the reality is very different.
Firstly, drinks are not included with dinner. This was never made sufficiently clear before ordering, resulting in unexpected additional charges.
Secondly, despite travelling as a family of five, the dinner provided under the package was effectively a meal suitable for only two people. The portions placed before us were simply inadequate. After finishing dinner, our children were still hungry. I ultimately had to order additional meals through Grab Food just so my family could eat enough.
This completely defeats the purpose of paying a premium for an "Ultimate Stay Package". By the time you purchase drinks separately and order additional food because the portions are insufficient, you end up spending substantially more than if you had simply booked a normal room and ordered directly from the restaurant's à la carte menu.
In other words, the package actually became more expensive than not having the package at all.
The confusion around dining did not stop there.
On multiple occasions we were presented with the full restaurant menu and invited to choose whatever we wanted. Only after ordering were we informed that certain dishes belonged to the à la carte menu rather than the package menu. Nobody initially explained the differences or proactively provided the correct package menu. Guests should never have to discover what they can and cannot eat after placing their order.
This happened repeatedly and created unnecessary embarrassment and frustration for both guests and restaurant staff.
Communication between departments appears to be a significant weakness throughout the hotel. Front Office, Reservations and Restaurant teams frequently appeared to have different understandings of the same booking. As guests, we found ourselves repeatedly explaining our reservation instead of simply enjoying our holiday.
To be completely fair, there were individuals who genuinely cared and worked extremely hard to recover our experience.
Ratha deserves special recognition. He listened, took ownership and consistently tried to resolve problems rather than making excuses. That level of leadership made a noticeable difference.
The restaurant chef also deserves sincere thanks. Our family has halal dietary requirements, and he went above and beyond to accommodate us with genuine care and professionalism. His willingness to adapt meals and ensure our family was looked after reflected the hospitality we expected from Marriott.
These individuals demonstrated exactly what Marriott service should look like.
The hotel itself is also excellent. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the swimming pool is beautiful, the gardens are well maintained, and the overall property is attractive and peaceful. Housekeeping has also been consistently good.
That is what makes this review even more disappointing.
The physical product is good.
Many of the staff are genuinely kind.
Unfortunately, the operational execution falls well below Marriott standards.
No guest should spend almost an hour checking in because staff do not understand their own package.
No guest should have to repeatedly clarify what is included.
No guest should discover drinks are excluded only after ordering.
No family should finish a supposedly inclusive dinner and still have hungry children requiring additional food delivered by Grab.
And no Lifetime Titanium Elite member should feel that their loyalty carries so little recognition during what should have been a premium experience.
I sincerely hope Marriott reviews both this property's operational procedures and the design of the Ultimate Stay Package. The concept may sound attractive on paper, but in practice it represents poor value and creates unnecessary confusion.
If I were rating only the property itself, I would comfortably award 8 or 9 out of 10.
If I were rating Ratha, the chef and several of the frontline team members, they would receive full marks for their effort and professionalism.
However, when assessing the complete guest experience, including arrival, communication, package value, dining experience and overall consistency, I can only rate this stay 4 out of 10.
My advice to future travellers is simple: book the room only. Skip the Ultimate Stay Package and purchase your meals separately. It will likely cost less, provide greater flexibility and avoid many of the frustrations my family experienced.

Is Courtyard by Marriott Siem Reap Resort really a five-star hotel?
Yes. Its own classification data carries five stars; that rating, not a style label, is what puts a property in this collection.
