Beauty, friendliness and comfort in high Appenzell
10.0I chose this guest house because of favourable reviews. And they were right. It is very well run. The owners were very friendly and helpful, making me feel welcome from the first contact. They are both charming and fluent in English. The bed had a memory foam mattress and was supremely comfortable. The room was uncluttered and clean, with attractive artwork. Although the 2 shower/toilet rooms on our floor were for the four(?) other guest rooms, they were warm, well-ventilated, odourless and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was generous with everything you'd want (I had to turn down the rich chocolate cake!). I left my cases there for the day after I checked out and when I collected them, I was offered coffee. I wish I could have stayed there another night! The village is beautiful. I was there for the famous Silvesterchlause (groups of "mummers" welcoming in the new year (they still recognise the Julian calendar and the Old Silvester is on 13th January) with costumes, cowbells and close harmony singing throughout the local area all day. Thick snow (and drivable roads). Public transport (bus) reliable and punctual. Stunning views and many walking paths. The local patisserie/cafe (Ida and Richie) is well worth a visit (very friendly, English spoken).
Peaceful quiet and clean room, nice people
8.0If you like to spend some time in a small quiet village with good possibilities for hiking, then you can choose the Gästehaus B&B Schwellbrunn. The room was spacious and very clean, but the bath was in the corridor (for us no problem). Parking lot in front of the house. The breakfast was tasty with fruits, cold meat, müsli and nice bred. The hosts are very friendly; here you feel well. Not to cheap!
