Great little find
9.0Room and guest house were spotless! As per request my room was at the back to lessen noise disturbance and the owner Hong was very pleasant and obliging. He even provided a good size fan to help cool the room as we were having extremely high temperatures and the room was stifling. Several secure entry and exit points from building. Also the bonus of free parking to rear of hotel plus plenty of on road parking though 2 hours restriction 9-5 here. My own score would be 9/10 and I would definitely return if I was in the area again.
− Loathe to be critical as I enjoyed my stay here and in truth very little wrong. The only slight difficulty I had was fathoming the shower operation which took a lot of fiddling and the actual shower unit was a little small for me at 6 foot plus but I managed!

The Clayhanger is an absolute gem of a guest house.
9.0The Clayhanger is an absolute gem of a guest house. It appears to be very well run. The staff were extremely courteous, friendly and welcoming. The room had its own natural quirkiness, but observe the mind your head signs. You will bang your head a few times! But don't let this put you off. The room was excellent and very clean. The fridge was a huge bonus. The entry system (perhaps unfairly criticised in other reviews) works very well. The location was perfect for my stay and the excellent (albeit sometimes confusing) bus links connect well to Hanley and Stoke. Buy a Smart Day Ticket if you plan to use more than one bus in a day. The success of this trip has opened up the potential of a return visit to the area, and I would not hesitate to book this lovely room again.
− It should be born in mind that Newcastle-under-Lyme is a naturally hilly area. Be prepared for some good exercise! The room was superb but I did have trouble with the window blind not staying closed. I did not report it as it didn't bother me too much. Being on the second floor there are no immediate neighbours. I was travelling alone on this trip, but my girlfriend would have been more sensitive to it.
