The W hotel was Just Good in Costa Rica
8.0Overall it was a great experience. The resort is lovely and taken care of very well. The staff is super attentive and very kind. The rooms were large and we each got one next to each other, two king rooms with large bathrooms. The first lunch was at the kids pool area (forget the name) it was really good. We had a great waiter and he convinced us to switch our reservation for that night to attend the beach bbq with a fire show. We decided to do that and no one told us it was over $100 per person! We don't eat shellfish or pork so we barely ate anything. The steak was dry and overcooked. The food just wasn't good, and the fire show was about 5 minutes long. SO not worth it at all! The breakfast buffet was very good, the pastries seemed stale and not good at all. I would reccomend going off the property for dinner. It less expensive and sometimes better food. We went to Patagona and it was good. We were scared to go off property because of the level 2 that Costa Rica just got but it seemed very safe and we didn't have any issues. It was about an hour from the Ligeria airport. The kids pool was small. The adult pool was nice and they say that kids under 18 can't go in but there were all kids in there each day we went. That was fine with us because we brought our kids. The pools weren't heated so it wasn't too warm but not crazy cold. Didn't have much to do for the kids and adults at night, everything ended around 9. It was very clean and service was good
Favorite hotel stay thus far! Everything about this resort was perfect. Highly recommend.
10.0Honestly I can’t even think of ONE THING to say that wasn’t positive about my experience here. Even if I’m being nit picky nothing comes to mind. Everything across the board was EXCEPTIONAL from the service, to the food, to the amenities. 10/10 and will be back again
Wonderful hotel, great staff!
10.0Stayed here in the middle of December and had a wonderful time. The hotel is in a beautiful location in the jungle overlooking the beach. The room was very nice and the housekeeping came multiple times per day which was a plus. Also, all the staff were extremely nice and friendly and truly made this stay enjoyable. Also shoutout to Erick G from Playa Conchal who arraigned our airport transportation, highly recommended. Overall, a great stay in Costa Rica!!
Not Worth $800+ Per Night.
2.0Should have listened to the negative reviews. This is easily the worst W property I’ve stayed at. The food is bad and wildly overpriced. Two average margaritas were $61. In-room coffee was $20, plus $10 for cream. That’s not luxury pricing, it’s a cash grab. Service matched the food. Wait staff consistently forgot our orders. To be fair, items were comped, but only after long, frustrating waits. The valet and welcoming staff were rude and acted inconvenienced every time we requested our car. The property itself is very small with very few amenities. We paid for an upgraded “full ocean view” room that was about 75% jungle, with the rest split between distant mountains and a sliver of ocean. WiFi was weak and inconsistent throughout the stay. Overall, this hotel is absolutely not worth the $800+ per night price tag. I stay primarily at W and higher-end Marriott properties, and this one falls far below brand standards. Avoid at all costs.
Meh
6.0This hotel could be a W anywhere in the World, there was nothing indicating you were in Costa Rica. They didn't even have Costa Rican rum in the bars. Self driving in the hotel is 2 km from the entrance but there are very few signs indicating directions (luckily google knew the way). As with all W hotels it feels as if its trying too hard to be trendy, we didn't really enjoy our stay here and likely wont be back. If you want real Costa Rica go elsewhere, if you want a generic hotel serving American food you will love it
Perfect week in paradise
10.0We had a fantastic time at this property. The grounds were gorgeous, the room was perfect, and everyone we met made us feel welcome and at home. Dania and Erich at the front desk were superb. Gregory and Heylor were at our service with rides to the beach. Pablo and Aaron showed us such great care at Azul. We look forward to returning to this property.
