Great pub with fantastic food

Great location in a quiet pretty village with lovely views of the Dales. The Game cock is a lovely pub, friendly staff and the breakfasts, on site bakery and evening meals were fantastic, can highly recommend steak frites night. The room was clean and comfortable, nicely decorated. We definitely plan to return.

Fantastic venue and staff

10.0

The service from the staff were incredible, nothing was too much trouble. We arrived early evening on a Thursday after walking in the hills. We hadn't booked a table as I had (stupidly) assumed that we would be ok with it being a Thursday evening, the pub was very busy but Dave organised a table for us straight away. The food and drink were excellent with a great menu on offer. The landlord is also the chef and clearly takes a great amount of pride in the pub and also the food. All of the staff were so helpful and friendly. The room was perfect for what we needed, with added touches of some free drinks and a little snack left. Breakfast the following morning was lovely. A great selection of continental items, and the cooked breakfast had really good quality food, again the chef clearly takes pride in every aspect. There is also a bakery and patisserie on site with some lovely looking cakes and breads.

Fabulous location, very nice breakfast, comfy bed

The location and the breakfast

Emergency green light glowing in the bedroom which was very intrusive whilst trying to sleep. I was disappointed that there was only Kingsmill bread at breakfast time, this is a mass produced, over processed, chemically altered food product. The same with the flavoured Yogurts. Room 3 was quiet small which I think when you book accommodation though a third party is where guests get placed by default. This room should have a cheaper rate given the size of it compared to the others.

Stayed here to break a journey home. The room was cosy but clean, comfortable and a nice place to be. The pub itself is great with amazing food and a great selection of drinks. What really makes this place stand out though is the staff; so friendly, attentive and polite. It feels like they really are invested in you enjoying your stay. A great pub run by a great team.
