this beautifully preserved cottage provided our family with a timeless home during our magical stay
10.0Since thirteen hundred sixty-six of old, These sacred oaks have weathered storm and blast; Within these walls, where ancient tales are told, We found a home, a refuge from the past. Fair Dunster’s charm did bless our wanderers’ heart, A timeless peace did soft our days embrace; Though on the morrow we must now depart, Our joyful souls shall linger in this place.
Excellent mini break for 4 friends and dog.
9.0Character, cleanliness, superb equipped kitchen. In the centre of a beautiful village, very close to shops and castle. A lovely cottage wth beamed rooms and medieval roots. Grateful the inside was so cool in the middle of the heatwave. Special mention to The Stage Inn across the road, warm welcome, real ales and hearty pub grub - very good value.
− Outside space limited but we were only there 3 nights so didn’t bother us
A great stay in a fabulous cottage of historical significance
10.0The Oval is full of character. Everything is done to a very high standard to ensure a comfy stay. This is the second of this set of properties we’ve stayed in and we were delighted again. The staff are always great. They were very helpful and flexible.
− Nothing.
Perfect place to stay for exploring the region.

A quirky, charming, full of character and spotless.
10.0Really wonderful welcome, coming into warm, lit rooms and the radio playing set the tone for our stay. The Easter eggs and biscuits and tea tray were a very generous touch. We felt very relaxed at The Oval on our Easter family holiday. The Oval is such a quirky, wonderful place to stay, everything thought of, and the little touches made our stay perfect. It’s in such a great location, close to the shops, pubs, eateries and castle. We spent a lovely afternoon walking around Dunster Castle and gardens, it is definitely worth a visit. We enjoyed the local walks. The Stag’s Head pub and Luttrell Arms are both welcoming and have great beer gardens. We have a thoroughly chilled, relaxed time in the cottage, cooking and playing games. Nothing is too much trouble for Lucy and she was always happy to help answer questions or sort things out for us. Thanks so much for a brilliant stay.
The perfect base to explore Dunster
10.0We loved everything about the property. It’s full of charm. Wonky doorways, Wonky floors, Wonky ceilings… but in the best way. A few banged heads but no complaints from us! We had an issue with TV remote on day one and someone turned up with a new remote the next day. Responsive hosts. Lovely little details throughout. Lots to do - books, boxes and boxes of games, TV had Netflix and Disney. Parking is very close down the road. No issues day to day but we did have a few trips to unload the car so just bear in mind if bringing lots of stuff. On our departure we were lucky to find a space directly out the front to load. Dunster is such a lovely unspoilt village. The lutterell arms did fabulous food. We ate there twice. We also had lunch at Tessa’s tea shop. All pubs, most cafes and most shops were dog friendly. Castle was closed for our trip but we walked around the ground and up to the tower on the opposite hill. Lovely walks a short drive to the forestry - tall trees at nutcombe bottom is impressive and easily extended into a big walk. We walked up to bats castle settlement with great views back down to Dunster and also did a few coastal walks down to Dunster from the oval (a nice loop in just under an hour), also parked up next to the old ship aground in minehead and walked up and around north hill and back to the pub for a nice dinner and then another walk further down the coast another day. Our dog loved it. We loved it. I would stay again in a heartbeat.
